A Norwegian resident exchanged five kilos of semi-dried fish, a delicacy valued at nearly 2,500 Norwegian crowns (£182), for a ticket to Thursday’s Europa League semi-final match between Bodø/Glimt and Tottenham, which took place in the Arctic Circle. This exchange occurred amidst a high demand for tickets, with 50,000 fans competing for just 480 available spots for the second leg of the semi-final. Torbjorn Eide, a fish farm production manager, made the offer in an attempt to secure a ticket after missing out on the usual sale. Oystein Aanes, who had an extra ticket, agreed to the trade, describing it as a fun gesture. Inspired by this transaction, another spectator, Nils Erik Oskal, attempted to barter five kilos of reindeer meat for a ticket, suggesting that the thrill of the experience outweighed the monetary value of the meat. In the first leg of the semi-final, Tottenham led 3-1, but a late goal by Bodø/Glimt’s Ulrik Saltnes provided a glimmer of hope for the Norwegian side, who, despite being underdogs, expressed their intention to play without fear and battle valiantly. Saltnes emphasized the importance of the journey, stating that making the final would be significant but not dramatically life-changing compared to the experiences gained along the way.
