Ex-Liberal Party Member of Parliament Rory Amon Set to Stand Trial for Male Youth Sexual Assault Charges in 2023| Australian Current Events

Rory Amon, a previous New South Wales Liberal Member of Parliament, is scheduled to face trial in February next year, following his charges involving sexual offences against a minor.

Amon, now 35 years old, appeared at Sydney’s Downing Centre district court and pleaded not guilty to a total of 10 charges, including five instances of sexual intercourse with someone aged between 10 and 14.

Judge Stephen Hanley has set the trial to begin on 16 February 2026.

After resigning from the Liberal party in response to these allegations, Amon declined to comment when approached by the press, accompanied by several supporters as he left the court.

The prosecution claims that when Amon was 27 years old, he used a gay dating app to interact with a 13-year-old boy in 2017 under the guise of being 17 years old, and then proceeded to sexually abuse the minor.

According to court documents, the teenager mentioned being 15 years old when sharing explicit content with Amon, with both agreeing to meet in person.

In two meetings that took place in a bathroom of a car park, Amon is accused of sexually assaulting the teen on multiple occasions.

The victim reported that Amon continued sending explicit images up until Amon’s arrest in August 2024.

Following his arrest last year, Amon issued a statement vehemently denying all accusations. He also stepped down from state parliament and left the Liberal party, stating that the serious nature of the charges would impede his ability to effectively represent his community in parliament.
