A former member of the European Parliament, Nathan Gill, who represented Ukip and later the Brexit party from 2014 to 2020, is facing charges related to allegedly benefiting the Russian narrative on Ukraine during his time in office. The details of the accusations against Gill, who served as a Reform UK leader in Wales, were presented at Westminster magistrates court.
According to the court proceedings, Gill allegedly made statements that supported Russia’s interests concerning events in Ukraine on at least eight occasions. These statements were made in the European parliament and to news outlets. Gill is accused of receiving money for these statements, which is a violation of the Bribery Act.
Gill, who resides in Anglesey (Ynys Môn), has been charged with one count of conspiracy to commit bribery under the Criminal Law Act 1977 and eight counts of bribery under the Bribery Act 2010. He denies these charges and will appear at the Old Bailey court on 14 March. He has been released on conditional bail, surrendering his passport and avoiding contact with associated parties.
Reform UK stated that Gill was never a member of the party but acknowledged that he had been a supporter.
