Some experts are now suggesting that the UK should consider developing alternative plans with European partners, including France. However, this would be a costly and time-consuming process. The UK is currently heavily reliant on the U.S. for its nuclear weapons infrastructure. Other factors influencing this issue include France’s openness to extending its nuclear umbrella over Europe and potential financial support from Germany towards British and French nuclear costs. Despite these changes, one Labour MP stated that it’s hard to imagine the US abandoning its relationship with the UK, especially given their strengthened ties through the Aukus alliance. Nevertheless, European countries are being urged to take steps to ensure their own safety and security.
