Mark Latham has vehemently rejected accusations of abuse and manipulation, as revealed through court documents submitted by a former partner requesting a restraining order. These allegations, reported by The Australian, detail a pattern of sustained abuse encompassing emotional, psychological, and financial manipulation. Despite having been informed of these claims, Latham has not yet received any such order and has termed Matthews’ claims as “absolute rubbish.” Latham further stated he possesses significant documentation to defend himself against these assertions. Matthew’s application for a domestic violence order seeks an interim measure to keep Latham at least 100 meters away, along with a two-year final order. While Guardian Australia does not affirm the validity of the claims made against Latham, it recognizes these claims are part of an ongoing application for a domestic violence order and will be addressed in court on July 30. Police have reportedly been notified about the allegations, though no charges have been filed or orders sought on Matthews’ behalf. Penny Sharpe, Labor’s upper house leader, commented that the claims are allegations and thus cannot be overemphasized, but highlighted the broader scrutiny Latham’s actions have come under, calling on other parties in parliament to reconsider their association with him. She added that when parliament reconvenes in August, she intends to present motions to the house questioning Latham’s overall behavior, including referring him to the privileges committee over revelations of unauthorized information under parliamentary privilege. Previously, in June, NSW Premier Chris Minns criticized Latham’s conduct after he exposed confidential medical records of NSW MP Alex Greenwich under parliamentary privilege, culminating in Greenwich winning a defamation case and $140,000 payment from Latham over a homophobic tweet.
