Glasgow Holds Vigil for 15-Year-Old Amen Teklay; Youth Facing Charges in Death Case | United Kingdom News

Amen Teklay, a 15-year-old Eritrean refugee known for his love for music and football, was remembered by friends and family at a Sunday vigil in Scotstoun, Glasgow. A crowd of over 100, primarily young people, gathered to honor Amen who passed away on Wednesday night in the St George’s Cross area of the city. Police Scotland has charged a 14-year-old in connection with Amen’s death, and a 15-year-old has also been arrested. Amen lived in the west of Glasgow with his father and sister in an area known for its large asylum seeker and refugee communities. He had recently been granted the right to remain status by the Home Office. During the vigil, Amen’s support worker from Kingsway Community Connections led the gathering, and the event was marked by moments of remembrance and a release of balloons. Amen was a pupil at St Thomas Aquinas Catholic secondary school where he showed great promise, and his death came as a shock to the school community. DCI Campbell Jackson expressed condolences and asked for any information that could aid in the investigation.
