The European Commission has announced it will impose “countermeasures” from April 1, 2015 in response to US tariffs of 25% on steel and aluminum imports. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated in a declaration that Brussels will “launch a series of countermeasures” due to “unjustified trade restrictions.”
Australian Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles expressed disappointment over the lack of exemptions, describing tariffs as “a type of economic self-inflicted harm.” He informed radio station 2GB that the country will be able to find alternative markets for its steel and aluminum, and that it has been diversifying these markets.
