Government question mark over potential involvement of Chinese company in crucial UK windfarm project | Wind power

Ministers are considering proposals for a Chinese company, Mingyang, to supply wind turbines for a major offshore windfarm project in the North Sea. Mingyang, China’s largest offshore wind company, has sought advice from ministers on whether to proceed. The project, being developed by Green Volt North Sea, aims to deliver electricity to oil and gas platforms, replacing power currently generated by gas and diesel turbines, and provide electricity to the UK grid. However, the decision over whether to source wind turbines from Mingyang has raised security concerns, following the government’s recent intervention in British Steel amid claims that its Chinese owner wanted to shut down its Scunthorpe plant.
