Greenland’s recently elected Prime Minister dismisses Trump’s recent ultimatum, affirming the nation’s sovereignty with a resolute statement.

The US is not going to acquire Greenland, announced the new prime minister of the country, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, in response to Donald Trump’s recent suggestions that he plans to take over the vast Arctic nation. “President Trump claims that the US will get Greenland. I am clear: the US won’t get it. We don’t belong to anyone else. We decide our future,” said Nielsen.

During an interview with NBC, the US President said, “We’ll get Greenland. Yes, 100%,” and argued that while there is a “good possibility that we can do it without using military force,” he remains open to all options.

Trump declared that there have been genuine discussions about annexing the semi-autonomous Danish territory, though Nielsen, a 33-year-old former minister of industry and minerals, was sworn in as Greenland’s youngest prime minister just last Friday. During his inaugural press conference in his hometown of Nuuk, he called for political unity to confront external pressures, stating, “We must stand together as a people under pressure.”

Nielsen took office just before a high-profile US delegation led by Vice-President JD Vance arrived on the island. Vance stated, “Our message to Denmark is straightforward: you have not done a good job for the people of Greenland. You have underinvested in them and in the security architecture of this incredible, beautiful land.”

Denmark’s Foreign Minister, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, responded on Saturday, “We are open to criticism, but frankly, we don’t appreciate the tone it is delivered in. This is not how you speak to your close allies, and I still consider Denmark and the US to be close allies.”
