The armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, sentenced for her role in the 2021 shooting incident on the set of the film Rust, has been released from prison in New Mexico. She was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter for the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, who died when actor Alec Baldwin, the film’s star and co-producer, fired a prop gun loaded with a live round during rehearsal, also injuring director Joel Souza. Despite facing the maximum penalty of 18 months, Gutierrez-Reed was granted parole to her home in Bullhead City, Arizona, under supervision that includes electronic monitoring, a curfew, and requirements to either work or attend school. Baldwin’s case was dismissed due to withheld evidence by prosecutors, and he has since been diagnosed with PTSD and sued the prosecutors for malicious prosecution and civil rights violations.
