The altercation occurred amid rising tensions over Donald Trump’s deployment of federal agents in DC to enforce his anti-migrant agenda. The president invoked a never-before-used clause for a temporary federal takeover of the district’s police department and hinted at extending his control without Congressional approval, if considered a national emergency.
