The exhibition, Paul McCartney: Rearview Mirror, will showcase photographs taken by Paul McCartney during the peak of the Beatles’ rise to global stardom in the late 1960s. Opening at the Gagosian gallery in London on August 28, the exhibit features over 30 black and white shots captured by McCartney during late 1963 after the release of the Beatles’ first album, as well as color images from early 1964 when the group traveled to the United States. These photos offer an intimate glimpse into the band’s early days of fame and their experiences as they broke into the American market. Joshua Chuang, the Gagosian’s director of photography, stated that these images capture the Beatles at a time when they were still grappling with their newfound fame and were not yet overwhelmed by the all-consuming nature of it.
