Innovative initiative aims to expand outdoor adventures throughout the United Kingdom, providing unparalleled opportunities for camping enthusiasts.

This summer, camping enthusiasts seeking a back-to-nature experience will have the opportunity to wild camp on previously inaccessible land across Britain, thanks to an initiative launched by CampWild, a camping booking platform, in collaboration with Rewilding Britain, a nature recovery charity. This partnership will grant outdoor enthusiasts access to nature restoration projects that have not previously allowed overnight stays, enabling them to engage in conservation and citizen science activities on-site.

Tom Backhouse, co-founder of CampWild, stated, “Rewilding Britain is conducting remarkable work to aid in the restoration of nature, and this initiative provides wild campers with exclusive access to pristine spaces where camping was previously prohibited.”

Through this collaboration, CampWild members will be able to learn about rewilding projects, such as beaver reintroduction and habitat restoration, prior to their trip. Upon booking, they will receive an interactive map, along with a species checklist and suggested activities, such as tracking biodiversity, monitoring wildlife, and removing invasive species.

CampWild, founded by Backhouse and Alex Clasper in 2023, aims to promote responsible access to nature and encourage people to disconnect from grids, connecting campers with landowners who allow camping on their lands, and building an online community. The platform offers the chance for one person or a small group to legally wild camp for up to 48 hours in a variety of landscapes, including ancient woodlands and riverside meadows, while adhering to a code of conduct.

The partnership between CampWild and Rewilding Britain represents a new era for responsible outdoor recreation, bridging the gap between adventure and conservation, and allowing visitors to experience and contribute to nature’s resurgence. CampWild membership costs £25 per year for an individual or household, with camping spaces available starting at £15 per night.
