Israel’s Mossad: Emerging from the Shadows with Drone Operator Claims Strengthening its Legend

Israelis are celebrating what many perceive as a significant success by their nation’s foreign intelligence service, the Mossad.

Following the launch of 200 warplanes in a series of strikes against Iran, Israeli officials released footage claiming to show Mossad agents in Iran assembling missiles and explosive drones targeting areas near Tehran.

According to unnamed security officials briefing Israeli media, similar precision weapons were launched from trucks smuggled into the country and a “drone base” near Tehran. This base was established in advance of Friday’s strike and was used to dismantle Iran’s air defenses.

The Mossad, abbreviated as the Institute for Intelligence and Special Operations in Hebrew, has a history of undercover operations, earning a reputation for daring espionage, technological advancement, and ruthless tactics.

This recent operation in Iran follows a successful sabotage of thousands of pagers and walkie-talkies used by Hezbollah operatives in Lebanon, an attack which killed 37 people and crippled the militant organization.

The Mossad has established a deep network of informants and logistics in Iran, facilitating operations such as the assassination of top nuclear scientists and the theft of nuclear documents.

Experts note that despite the success of the operation, its impact on Iran’s overall capabilities is yet to be seen. The operation likely required extensive preparation and coordination, highlighting the expertise and skill of the Mossad.

Former Mossad officials say the service is only noticed when operations go wrong, emphasizing the secrecy and discretion of its operations.

Some of the Mossad’s most famous operations include the capture of Adolf Eichmann in 1960, the stealing of warships from the French navy in 1969, and a raid on Entebbe, Uganda in 1976.

The assistance of Aman, the military intelligence service, played a significant role in providing targeting information for the Israeli attack, reflecting the close cooperation between the intelligence services.

The mythical reputation of the Mossad has been enhanced by films and TV series, showcasing the service’s impact on modern espionage.
