Julian Assange Participates in Pro-Palestinian Demonstration on Sydney Harbour Bridge Until Interruption by Authorities Over Safety Concerns | Sydney Harbour Bridge

A large crowd, including notable figures such as Julian Assange, former politicians Bob Carr, and Ed Husic, braved the rain to march over the Sydney Harbour Bridge. This March was organized to show solidarity with Palestine and highlight the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Despite initial objections from the New South Wales (NSW) Government over safety concerns, the NSW Supreme Court ruled in favor of allowing the protest to proceed. About 3 pm local time, the NSW Police sent out mass text messages to protesters, urging them to stop due to safety concerns and instructing them to await further instructions. The police eventually managed the crowd, ensuring the march ended in a controlled manner.

The organizers and speakers at the demonstration criticized the NSW Premier, Chris Minns, for attempting to restrict the protest. Greens Senator Mehreen Faruqi praised the protesters for their courage and accused the authorities of trying to suppress the demonstration.

Many protesters joined the rally to support the cause and to voice their opposition to Israel’s actions in Gaza. They carried flags, signs, and wore wet weather gear, symbolizing their commitment to the cause despite the adverse weather conditions.

This protest reflects ongoing international concern and activism in response to the plight of Palestinians in Gaza, with significant involvement from both Australian and international support networks.
