Katter Faced with Nine Requests to Apologize for Assertive Actions and Inappropriate Threats toward Journalist | Bob Katter

Nine Entertainment is reportedly considering legal action against Bob Katter, an independent member of parliament, for an outburst at a press conference where Katter accused Nine’s Queensland reporter, Josh Bavas, of being a racist and threatened to punch him. Katter’s tirade followed his expression of support for anti-immigration protests planned for the weekend. During the altercation, Katter approached the reporter and shook his fist. Nine executives are said to be considering defamation proceedings and have demanded an apology from Katter. The incident has caused a backlash online, with some agreeing with Katter and others criticizing Bavas for what they called provocative questioning. Katter previously slammed another journalist, George McKenzie, for inquiring about his Lebanese heritage in relation to his immigration views. Nine’s executive director of news and current affairs, Fiona Dear, defended Bavas, arguing that Katter’s behavior and accusations were unwarranted and called for a public apology. Former MP George Christensen urged his followers on Facebook to show disrespect for journalists, with a large number of comments supporting this stance. The issue has gained the attention of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Senator Jane Hume, both of whom have condemned Katter’s behavior.
