The Victorian Liberal party’s deputy leader and former Australian tennis star, Sam Groth, is threatening legal action against News Corp for allegedly spreading gossip about his relationship with his wife, Brittany. Grove’s lawyers have accused the articles of violating Brittany’s privacy and causing harm to his reputation. They argue that the articles lack journalistic merit and serve only to create malicious gossip. The Grove family demands the articles be removed and an apology be published. They also wish to pursue legal action against the sources that provided information for the articles. Both the Premier of Victoria, Jacinta Allan, and the Liberal leader, Brad Battin, have expressed support for the Grove family and denounced the articles as disgraceful. The editor of the Herald Sun, Sam Weir, claims the articles were of public interest and covered important issues relevant to Victorian politics leading up to an election.
