Vanuatu has confirmed that there are no plans to revoke the citizenship of Andrew Tate, despite reports that the influencer obtained Vanuatu citizenship around the time of his 2022 arrest in Romania on charges of rape and human trafficking. A government spokesperson said that Tate had been cleared by Interpol and the UK at the time of citizenship, and since then, no fault has been found in his documents. Tate reportedly obtained a Vanuatu passport through a citizenship-by-investment program that allows foreign nationals to buy citizenship for $130,000. The Vanuatu government will, however, work on strengthening its due diligence processes for its citizenship program, which has a “very bad reputation overseas.” Tate’s citizenship could be revoked if he is found guilty of the charges he faces in Romania, where he and his brother Tristan were arrested in 2022 and remain under criminal investigation.
