A massive fire has inadvertently sparked in a suburb near Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, resulting from the rupture of a gas pipeline. This incident has led to the evacuation of nearby residences as a safety precaution.
The fire, occurring near a gas station in Putra Heights within the central Selangor state, was visible from miles away. National oil company Petronas confirmed the fire’s origin at one of their gas pipelines at approximately 8:10 AM, indicating that the affected pipeline had been sealed off. Despite the proximity of three gas stations to the fire site, they were unaffected but were temporarily closed as a precautionary measure. Investigations are ongoing.
Commuters and local residents witnessed the fire, with images and footage rapidly spreading across social media. Reports state that the conflagration has spread to nearby houses, and rescue operations are underway to assist those trapped. Several individuals have reportedly suffered burns and are to be medically treated. Authorities have closed the valve to the pipeline, anticipating it will extinguish the fire.
The Star English newspaper stated that fire and rescue teams managed to save seven people. Chief Minister Amirudin Shari of Selangor reported that firefighting squads were swiftly deployed to the location to evacuate nearby residents to a nearby mosque until the situation is controlled.
The incident is causing significant concern among residents, with some reporting that the force of the explosion was so powerful that it caused doors and windows in their homes to shake.
