A man has been accused of domestic violence murder and arson after a body was discovered in a burned-down house on a semi-rural property in Queensland.
Cameron Robert Hunt, 45, has been charged following a fire at a house in Geham, north of Toowoomba, just before 3 a.m. on Tuesday.
A body was later found inside the property, although police have not yet officially identified the victim as forensic tests are still being conducted.
However, a spokesperson for the Queensland police confirmed that a woman who lived in the house is missing.
The police stated that two children residing in the home are “safe and well” after the fire.
“There were no hospitalizations of the children, and all I can say at this point is they are young children in that house,” Supt George Marchesini told reporters on Tuesday afternoon.
Hunt’s case was brought up at Toowoomba magistrates court on Wednesday, where he was excused from attending and remained at the watch house.
His Legal Aid lawyer requested a three-month adjournment for the prosecution to prepare its evidence file.
The police prosecutor Chris Willson agreed, stating he “would appreciate the extra time, given the serious nature of the offenses.”
The matter has been adjourned until July 16, with the evidence file to be submitted two weeks prior.
