Man Charged in Kim Kardashian Robbery Expresses Regret Over $10 Million Heist

A 71-year-old man who claims to have participated in a jewelry heist in which Kim Kardashian was robbed at gunpoint in 2016 has expressed regret for取(participating) in the crime. Yunice Abbas is one of 10 individuals on trial in Paris for their involvement in the robbery that took place on the night of October 2-3.

Abbas stated that he was stationed in the lobby of a Paris hotel as a lookout while two other suspects entered Kardashian’s room, tied her up, and escaped with approximately $10 million worth of her jewelry.

Abbas chose to disclose his version of events in a book titled “I Kidnapped Kim Kardashian,” which he published in 2021. During the trial, a prosecutor presented the book and questioned Abbas about his decision to publicly discuss the theft. In response, Abbas admitted to feeling uncomfortable about his actions and expressed deep regret for his involvement.

He further explained that he had arrived at the robbery by bicycle and fled in the same manner, dropping a bag containing stolen items along the way. Unfortunately, he missed a diamond necklace that was the only item recovered by the police.

According to Abbas, participating in the theft of Kardashian’s jewels proved to be “one job too many” and served as a wake-up call to his wrongdoing. Throughout the trial, he showed signs of nervousness and placed his right hand over his left, which he mentioned helped control his racing heart.

The presiding judge delved into Abbas’s criminal record, highlighting previous convictions for creating counterfeit number plates, modifying vehicles to conceal drugs, and armed robbery where he held a gun. In addition to his criminal past, Abbas disclosed that he had “moments of weakness” when financial needs led him to engage in easy shortcuts, which only complicated his life.

Notably, all defendants, including Abbas, are currently out of custody. Kim Kardashian, who is now 44 years old, is scheduled to testify on May 13.

Defense lawyers are actively working to dispel the public perception of the accused as kind and elderly individuals. Henri de Beauregard, representing one of the victims, insisted that the public should not be swayed by the “myth of friendly, Robin Hood-style pensioners” and should recognize the criminal nature of the individuals on trial.
