Melbourne resident admits guilt in the manslaughter of a teacher discovered at a local dump.

A man named Stephen Fleming has admitted to killing 67-year-old English teacher Annette Brennan in Melbourne’s north. On Thursday, he pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the Victorian Supreme Court, initially facing a murder charge for Brennan’s death. Fleming reportedly killed Brennan on July 1, 2024.

Her body was discovered on July 3 at a green waste facility in Epping by workers handling the site. Earlier, investigators believed her body was found within a domestic wheelie bin outside a property in a nearby suburb, specifically identified as Hilgay Street in Coolaroo.

Prior to his arraignment, Fleming attended a sentence indicator hearing, the details of which were not disclosed in court. Consequently, Justice Christopher Beale issued a remand for Fleming’s custody until his plea hearing in September.
