Michael Douglas Reveals No Desire to Return to Acting: “I Had to Stop” | Article on Michael Douglas

Twice Oscar-winning actor Michael Douglas has hinted that he might be concluding his acting career, stating that he has no real ambitions to continue in the entertainment industry.

At the 50th-anniversary celebration of the film One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, held at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in the Czech Republic, the 80-year-old actor and producer declared in a press conference that he would only consider another role if something “exceptional” were to present itself.

His latest project was the role of Benjamin Franklin in the Apple TV+ series Franklin, which filenames from 2022 and was released this year.

Michael Douglas has expressed, “I’ve had a very busy career. I chose not to work since 2022, intending to take a break. After nearly 60 years of constant work, I didn’t want to end up exhausted on set.

I’m enjoying the time off and have no immediate plans to return. Yet, I don’t consider myself retired; if something standout comes up, I’m open to it. I’m mostly content and enjoy watching my wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones, in her work.”

Douglas, who battled stage four throat cancer in 2010, remarked he felt lucky to have avoided surgery. He believes his experience underscored the fragility of life. He also voiced concerns about the state of American politics, suggesting that democracy is facing concerning threats.

Reflecting on the state of US democracy, Douglas said, “It is precious and vulnerable and always requires protection. I hope our current challenges remind us of the efforts of others, like the Czechs, who fought for their freedom and independence.” He emphasized that the shift towards materialism in politics must be acknowledged and addressed.

While Douglas chose not to elaborate much, noting that the news is self-evident, he conveyed a sense of worry about the uncertain future.
