The highlight of Milan fashion week was the Fendi family’s celebration of 100 years in the industry, which took the form of a grand birthday party that also showcased their latest collection. The event, which featured a cameo by the great-great-grandsons of house founders Edoardo and Adele, was a mix of business, sentiment, and an ode to fashion history. Silvia Venturini Fendi, the artistic director of accessories and menswear, played host and emphasized that despite Fendi’s ownership by LVMH, nothing has changed for her personally. The show also marked the absence of a womenswear designer following Kim Jones’ departure last year, with the recruitment for his successor on hold in honor of the brand’s milestone. Silvia, who designed the iconic Baguette handbag, described the anniversary collection as embodying the “Fendi-ness” – a blend of quality, luxury, fun, and the presence of incredible women.
