Div: Columbia University student Mohsen Mahdawi, recently released from federal detention, graduated on Monday to cheers from his fellow graduates. The Palestinian activist was arrested in Vermont during a naturalization interview and detained by the Trump administration, which sought to deport him despite no criminal charges. Students cheered for Mahdawi as he walked on stage, and he later joined a vigil outside the university, raising a photo of his detained classmate Mahmoud Khalil. Mahdawi criticized the university for acquiescing to the Trump administration and its handling of his and Khalil’s arrests. He plans to continue advocating for the Palestinian cause, despite facing an uncertain future and potential legal challenges.
