MSNBC Ditches Joy Reid’s Show in Strategy Overhaul at Left-Leaning Network | MSNBC

MSNBC has reportedly canceled the show of longtime anchor Joy Reid in a major programming reshuffle, according to sources. The move is part of a lineup change being led by the network’s new president, Rebecca Kutler.

Speaking to the New York Times, two individuals familiar with the reshuffle stated that Joy Reid’s 7pm show, The ReidOut, will be replaced by a new show co-led by Symone Sanders-Townsend, Alicia Menendez, and Michael Steele, who currently co-host The Weekend show.

Reid’s final episode is expected to air this upcoming week. MSNBC plans to replace his current slot with the new show co-hosted by three anchors. Symone Sanders-Townsend is a Democratic strategist and former counsel to former vice president Kamala Harris, Alicia Menendez is a television commentator, and Michael Steele is the former lieutenant governor of Maryland and chairperson of the Republican National Committee from 2009 to 2011.

This cancellation comes a month after MSNBC’s former president, Rashida Jones, stepped down from the network after a nearly four-year tenure. Kutler, who was then MSNBC’s senior vice-president for content strategy, took over her position. Following Jones’s departure, Mark Lazarus, NBCUniversal Media Group chairman, stated, “We have a lot to do.” In January, prominent anchor and former host of Meet The Press, Chuck Todd, announced his departure from NBC News.

The decision to drop McDaniel, who served as RNC chair during Trump’s first presidential term, was made after NBC faced backlash. In response to NBC’s decision, Joy Reid expressed her gratitude to NBCUniversal News Group chair, Cesar Conde, for making the right decision.
