Multiple Individuals Apprehended in France Following Syringe Assaults on Crowds at Outdoor Music Event | France

French authorities detained 12 individuals following incidents where 145 people claimed they were pricked with syringes during the annual street music festival, Fête de la Musique. The event saw millions attend across France. Prior to the festivities, social media posts suggested women should be targeted. The interior ministry reported that tests were conducted to determine if date-rape drugs were involved. In Paris, three individuals, including a 15-year-old girl, reported being pricked and feeling unwell. A total of 12 suspects were arrested nationwide, including four in Angoulême suspected of targeting about 50 victims. More than 370 people were detained on various charges. Fourteen individuals were seriously injured, and 13 law enforcement members were also hurt. The Paris police prefect, Laurent Nuñez, stated there were no major incidents.
