Multiple Individuals Injured in Shootings at Minneapolis Homeless Camp

MINNEAPOLIS POLICE REPORT MULTIPLE SHOOTINGS AT HOMELESS SETTLEMENTS

In a tumultuous day for Minneapolis, law enforcement has confirmed that more than a dozen individuals were injured in two distinct shooting incidents at separate homeless encampments across the city.

The first incident transpired at a transit hub, where five individuals were injured, marking the third shooting in this location within the past month.

Expressing his concern, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara condemned the alarming regularity of such incidents. “This is not normal; here we are, again witnessing a mass shooting.”

Just two miles away, the second shooting took place. This site, notably controverted, is owned by Hamoudi Sabri, a private landlord and an advocate for homeless rights since 2021. Sabri’s stance is rooted in his belief that the city has not effectively addressed the underlying causes of homelessness.

Reacting to the shooting, Sabri highlighted the lack of adequate responses to these incidents. “Had these shootings been treated as emergencies, you would already see grief and trauma counselors on site. Instead, the city’s response is the same as always: displacement, destroying tents, and fencing off these communities, which they term leadership.”

Responding swiftly, the city moved to dismantle the encampment on Sabri’s property, potentially circumventing the ongoing legal dispute between them.

As the cost of housing spirals out of control, leaving many without homes, the issue of homelessness becomes ever more pressing on the national agenda. The latest shootings bring to light a broader trend; within two weeks, Minneapolis experienced five mass shooting incidents, including one fatal incident at a Catholic school.

A recent executive order by the Trump administration has similarly stirred controversy, instructing governments to relocate homeless individuals into “long-term institutional settings,” igniting fears of homelessness criminalization.

Fox News host Brian Kilmeade’s extreme suggestion of “involuntary lethal injection” as a solution for homelessness has drawn significant criticism and outrage.
