The current death toll from a significant earthquake that hit Myanmar has reached nearly 700. Rescuer teams are working their way through the rubble of collapsed buildings to locate survivors. The 7.7-magnitude earthquake, followed by a 6.7-magnitude aftershock, struck north of the city of Sagaing in central Myanmar. It caused widespread damage, including to buildings, roads, and bridges, with the second-largest city, Mandalay, being one of the worst affected. The actual extent of the disaster remains unclear due to disruptions in communication. This is the largest earthquake to hit Myanmar in over a century, with tremors strong enough to cause considerable damage to buildings in Bangkok, several hundred kilometers away. As a result, the Thai capital is searching for survivors trapped in a collapsed construction site. Around 10 deaths have been reported in Bangkok. Offers of international aid have been made, with President Donald Trump pledging US assistance to the military-ruled state.
