At least 80 shots were fired in a North Carolina neighborhood, killing one person and injuring 11 others, authorities stated on Sunday.
The shooting occurred early Sunday in Hickory, according to the Catawba county sheriff’s office. No arrests have been made yet, but it is confirmed that there were multiple shooters involved.
The incident happened around 12:45am during a party in Hickory, the Catawba county sheriff’s office reported.
One person is in critical condition, and 10 others are in serious condition, as per the sheriff’s office.
The North Carolina state bureau of investigation, Hickory police department, and the FBI are all involved in investigating the shooting. No arrests have been made so far, and the total number of shots fired is still unknown.
The sheriff’s department has not released the names or ages of the victims.
Investigators mentioned that there were as many as 100 people at a house party on the street when one or more individuals started firing firearms.
Eyewitnesses reported that many party-goers were from nearby high schools and that people began running and taking cover when the shots were fired.
Major Aaron Turk from the sheriff’s office stated at a news conference that the street is usually quiet.
