Neil Young has credited Robert Smith, the frontman of The Cure, for inspiring his decision not to allow Ticketmaster to use dynamic pricing for his upcoming tour. Dynamic pricing is a practice by Ticketmaster where ticket prices for highly sought-after events are raised. Smith has been a vocal critic of this practice, calling it a “greedy scam.” Young has expressed agreement with Smith’s stance and believes that dynamic pricing is a “bad thing” that has affected concerts worldwide. Young’s management has always aimed to protect him and his fans from ticket scalping, but the introduction of high-priced Platinum tickets by Ticketmaster, which was meant to target the areas where scalpers were buying the most tickets to resell, did not sit well with Young. He has now decided not to offer Platinum tickets for his shows and believes that people should buy aggressively when tickets become available, as secondary markets will likely charge higher prices. The Guardian has reached out to Ticketmaster’s UK representatives for comment. Young, who is 79, is preparing for his Love Earth tour with his band the Chrome Hearts, with shows in Europe and North America between April and August, including two concerts in the UK.
