Neo-Nazi Thomas Sewell, who allegedly led an attack on a sacred Indigenous burial site in Melbourne, has been denied bail. Sewell, 32, appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday, with a magistrate ruling that she was convinced he would endanger the safety of others if released into the community. Magistrate Donna Bakos found Sewell’s alleged offences to be “serious.” The police charged Sewell on Tuesday with multiple offences, including violent disorder and affray over the alleged incident at Camp Sovereignty during the weekend. He was the leader of the Nationalist Socialist Network and allegedly instructed about 30 group members to charge the encampment. Bakos stated that Sewell was not charged over his political view and ideology, and Pascoe claimed that releasing Sewell would endanger vulnerable groups and ethnic minorities.
