The New South Wales mid-north coast is bracing for significant flooding following heavy rainfall that has pushed a major river to just shy of its highest level in almost 100 years. The Bureau of Meteorology predicts 50mm to 150mm of rainfall in the affected areas, with some isolated regions potentially seeing over 200mm. Some towns have already experienced between 300mm to 400mm of rain, leading to widespread flash and river flooding. The situation is not expected to improve until later in the week as a slow-moving weather system continues to deliver rainfall. Officials are warning residents in areas such as Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie, Taree, Kempsey, Sawtell, Dorrigo, Barrington Tops, Wingham, and Yarrowitch to prepare for more rain and potential evacuation. The NSW State Emergency Service responded to over 890 calls in the past 24 hours, including over 130 flood rescues. Various regions have already seen record-breaking flood levels, surpassing even those from 1929. Emergency services are focused on assisting those in evacuation zones. The Myall River in the Hunter region is also under a flood watch, urging residents to stay informed and ready to move to higher ground. Local business owner Ray reported losing his houseboat to the rising waters, a personal blow after weeks of unpredictable weather.
