A taxi driver in New South Wales has been fined $12,000 and banned from operating after breaking state rules by charging fixed fares that were higher than the legal limit and ejecting passengers who refused. The Point-to-Point Transport Commission prosecuted Nurman Syarif, who was found guilty of these offenses. He demanded fares that exceeded state limits and put passengers’ safety at risk by ejecting them and their luggage. The commission also noted that Syarif behaved in an abusive manner toward passengers. Another driver was fined $3,300 for attempting to charge extra fees at the end of trips. The transport commissioner expressed satisfaction with the outcomes, emphasizing that rogue drivers have no place in the industry and will face severe penalties. The industry nationwide is facing a challenge with rogue drivers taking advantage of differences in state laws.
