Nvidia and AMD have reportedly agreed to give the US government 15% of their revenues from chip sales in China in order to obtain export licenses for these semiconductors. This arrangement is unprecedented and comes as a condition for granting access to the Chinese market, as mentioned by the Financial Times. The arrangement applies to Nvidia’s H20 chips and AMD’s MI308 chips. The Trump administration has yet to determine how the collected funds will be utilized. This deal is the first of its kind for US companies, and is seen as part of efforts by Donald Trump to encourage investment in the US and reduce tariff rates.
