A Mexican navy sailing ship collided with the Brooklyn Bridge during a promotional tour in New York City on Saturday. The top of its mast brushed against the iconic span as it sailed through the East River. According to New York City Mayor Eric Adams, two people were killed in the incident and 19 others were injured, with two of them in critical condition. There were 277 people on board the ship, called the Cuauhtémoc, when it lost power and struck the bridge. Eyewitness videos showed the ship’s three masts snapping and partially collapsing upon impact. The vessel, flying a Mexican flag, then drifted towards the edge of the river. The Mexican navy stated that the accident caused damage to the Cuauhtémoc, preventing it from continuing its voyage. Meanwhile, spectators in Brooklyn Bridge Park observed the ship stranded near the Manhattan Bridge.
