The court has been told by a bush pilot that he disposed of reality TV star Chris “Willow” Wilson’s mobile phone after the fatal helicopter crash he was involved in, but he claims he does not remember unscrewing the console of the helicopter with Outback Wrangler’s Matt Wright.
Michael Burbidge, the pilot and director of Remote Helicopters, gave evidence during Wright’s trial in the Supreme Court in Darwin.
Wilson was in a sling hanging underneath a helicopter during a mission to collect crocodile eggs when the helicopter crashed, resulting in his death and severe injuries to the pilot, Sebastian Robinson, who is now paralyzed.
Wright has pleaded not guilty to three counts of attempting to pervert the course of justice following the February 2022 crash in a remote part of Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory.
The prosecution argues that Wright failed to properly record helicopter flying hours and was concerned that crash investigators would discover this problem, which could potentially lead to charges against him and his company.
Crown prosecutor Jason Gullaci SC has informed the jury that the charges are not related to the cause of the accident, and it is not alleged that Wright
