Over 40 individuals detained during demonstration against alleged genocide in Gaza held at Trump’s New York hotel | NYC

Dozens of people arrested as they protested the genocide in Gaza outside the Trump International hotel in New York City on Monday night. The protest, organized by IfNotNow, began at Columbus Circle earlier that day. Hundreds gathered under the banner “Trump: Jews Say No More” and demanded that the genocide in Gaza end and that the Trump administration pressure Israel to allow greater humanitarian aid to enter the territory because health officials were reporting deaths from starvation and malnutrition. Morriah Kaplan, IfNotNow’s interim executive director, said that the Israeli government’s blockade of Gaza was a policy of ethnic cleansing by way of forced mass starvation and that the viewing of such atrocities was an indication of a growing movement to oppose the Israeli government and its actions in Gaza. “We need the US government to use its considerable leverage to end these horrors,” she said. Protesters held signs that read “stop ethnic cleansing,” “never again is now,” “stop starving Gaza,” and “not in our name” and included Ruth Messinger, several hundred Americans Jews, former Special Assistant to the Chief of Staff at the US Department of the Interior Lily Greenberg Call, and a Norwegian photojournalist Motaz Azaiza among other speakers. A protester difference in appearance was around 8.15 pm ET according to eyewitnesses.
