Peter Dutton has stated that the Coalition does not have any plans to reform what students learn in schools, even though he previously claimed that children are being “indoctrinated” and promised to make changes to the curriculum. Dutton had previously expressed concerns about a “woke agenda” in schools and said that a Coalition government would restore a curriculum focused on “critical thinking, responsible citizenship, and common sense.” He also suggested placing a “condition” on funding to ensure that schools are not guided by an “agenda that’s come out of universities.” However, Dutton downplayed any changes to the curriculum just two days before the election. Education minister Jason Clare stated that the current national curriculum was put in place by the Morrison government and would be reviewed as part of the normal process in the next parliament. Clare also emphasized that the Liberal Party, not Adam Bandt, wrote the curriculum.
