Peter Dutton expressed disappointment with Donald Trump’s treatment of Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the Oval Office and vowed to lobby the US president to change his stance on Ukraine, if the Coalition secures victory in the upcoming federal election. Dutton commended Zelenskyy as a “modern-day hero” and warned that Europe cannot continue to rely on the US for financial and military support. Both Dutton and the Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, downplayed the possibility of Australia joining a proposed peacekeeping mission in Ukraine by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Labor stated that they would continue to provide other forms of aid to Ukraine.
