Peter Straughan, a British dramatist, has triumphed by receiving the Oscar for the best adapted screenplay for his adaptation of Robert Harris’s thriller, Conclave.
At 56 years of age, Straughan has also been bestowed with the Bafta, Golden Globe, and Critics Choice award for his work on Conclave. He had previously been nominated for an Oscar for his 2011 adaptation of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
Straughan co-wrote Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy with his late wife, Bridget O’Connor, dedicating the Bafta-winning film to her, as she passed away before its release.
The film Conclave, which received the best picture award at the Baftas, is nominated in eight Oscar categories. It triumphed over A Complete Unknown, Sing Sing, Emilia Pérez, and Nickel Boys for the adapted screenplay Oscar.
Straughan, who wore a ribbon in support of Ukraine, thanked his team and the film’s cast and crew from the podium, and acknowledged his daughter, whom he shared the award with.
The 97th Academy Awards are currently underway in Los Angeles.
