PostNord, responsible for mail delivery in Denmark, announces the cessation of letter delivery services due to a staggering 90% decline in volume | Denmark news update

Denmark’s postal service, PostNord, has announced that it will stop delivering letters starting from next year and plans to cut a third of its staff. The decision is prompted by the significant decline in letter deliveries due to digitalization, with a 90% reduction in letters sent since 2000, and 1,500 jobs out of 4,600 would be affected. In 2024, the number of letters decreased by more than 30% compared to the previous year, a trend that is expected to continue. Additionally, PostNord lost its obligation to deliver post to the entire country last year as part of a move towards market liberalization, also impacting its financial support. Despite this, DAO, which won the contract to deliver public service mail last year, is prepared to enhance its letter distribution services. Moreover, many postal services across Europe are facing difficulties due to digitalization. In response, the German postal service, Deutsche Post, has also announced plans to cut 8,000 jobs in Germany to reduce costs.
