Qatar sets its sights on hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games by 2036 | Overview of Olympic Games

Qatar has expressed its interest in hosting the 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The country’s Olympic committee (QOC) stated on Tuesday that it is currently in discussions with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) regarding the possibility of staging the Games. Qatar previously hosted the men’s football World Cup in 2022.

The QOC emphasized the nation’s commitment to supporting the Olympic and Paralympic Movements and its desire to play an active role in the advancement of global sport. The hosting of a Summer Games in the Middle East may require a shift from the traditional scheduling due to the extreme heat. The 2022 World Cup was moved to November and December to accommodate this issue.

Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, president of the QOC and chair of the bid committee, mentioned that Qatar currently possesses 95% of the necessary sports infrastructure and has a comprehensive national plan to ensure full readiness of all facilities. The plan is based on a long-term vision aimed at creating a socially, economically, and environmentally sustainable legacy. The objective goes beyond organizing a successful event, but also delivering a global experience that embodies the values of inclusivity, sustainability, and international collaboration.

The new IOC president, Kirsty Coventry, recently mentioned that the organization will be reviewing its process for determining the hosts of future Games.
