Following the stripping of his-party whip for allegedly threatening the Reform party chair, Zia Yusuf, Lowe had called for a private dinner meeting with the party leader, Nigel Farage, less than 24 hours after the incident.
The Great Yarmouth MP was subsequently reported to the police by the party for “verbal threats” stemming from an alleged incident in December, which Scotland Yard confirmed is currently being assessed.
Commenting on the situation, Lowe expressed his sense of betrayal by former allies and questioned the reasonableness of his demands, such as regular meetings with MPs and insight into policy-making processes.
In his message, he called for Farage to address the mounting tensions in a manner expected by the party’s members and the public.
“Does requesting regular meetings make me a monster? Is it irrational to want to see policy before it’s public? Is it fair to be insulted for wanting dialogue?” he questioned. Additionally, Lowe publicly reiterated his private invitations to Farage to resolve their differences, all of which had been previously declined.
A statement released by Reform accused Lowe of making physical threats on at least two occasions against Yusuf, and cited allegations from two staff members of bullying and derogatory comments made by Lowe about women in his offices.
Lowe dismissed these allegations as “vexatious,” suggesting a timing aligned with his requests for accountability from the party’s leadership. He criticized the leadership’s inability to accept mild criticism without what he described as a “malicious reaction,” arguing this does not represent effective leadership.
The police involvement follows significant internal divisions within the party, which has further highlighted the lack of cohesion and leadership within Reform. In an interview with the DailyMail, Lowe branded the Reform party as a “protest party led by the Messiah” under Farage’s leadership, whereas his potential to become prime minister remains uncertain, contingent on surrounding himself with “the right people.”
