A mother claims her six-year-old daughter is “traumatized” after police escorted her and other Aboriginal children from an Inverell pool in New South Wales, following reports of “antisocial behavior.” The incident has prompted Amnesty International to call for an investigation into a potential “violation of human rights.” The center, managed by Belgravia Leisure, maintains a zero-tolerance policy for discrimination and asserts that police were called after the group failed to stop their antisocial behavior despite numerous requests. However, several parents, including Christa Schneider, allege they received no prior warnings before being asked to leave. Schneider’s daughter was supposedly escorted out for not following pool rules, a claim Schneider disputes, stating her daughter was only twice warned for jumping from the pool’s edge and was not asked to leave before the police arrived. The incident has caused distress to the Schneider family and concerns over the treatment of Indigenous children. NSW police confirmed they were called due to a group being disruptive and refusing to leave the premises. Neither Belgravia Leisure nor the police have suggested any form of discrimination. Others who were similarly asked to leave, like Leah Brown, also report receiving no prior notice. The event became widely known after Thomas Davis live-streamed it, alleging police targeted Black children. Dillon from Amnesty International likened this incident to past discriminatory practices against Aboriginal children, highlighting the ongoing disparities within Australian society.
