Vladimir Putin will face severe consequences if he breaches a peace deal with Ukraine, according to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. This warning came after Starmer met with officials from 31 countries at the Northwood military base in London, where they discussed potential deployments of Western forces to protect Ukraine.
Starmer emphasized that Putin would not dictate how Ukraine defends itself and expressed strong opposition to Putin’s demand for Ukraine’s demilitarization. The Prime Minister clarified that allied forces would support Ukrainian troops, rather than replace them. He attributed this plan as a means to safeguard peace, drawing parallels with security arrangements in countries like Estonia.
The meeting included representatives from France, Poland, the Netherlands, Romania, Canada, and Australia, as well as US and Italian officials. Despite the participation of these nations, there has been criticism of Starmer’s plans, labeling them as risky and ineffective. Meanwhile, negotiations continue between the US, Ukraine, and Russia, with talks expected to resume in Saudi Arabia to discuss a potential ceasefire and a more comprehensive deal.
