Starmer, Cooper, and King Charles Commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the 7/7 Attacks | London Attacks on July 7

Keir Starmer, King Charles, and Home Secretary Yvette Cooper have marked the 20th anniversary of the 7 July attacks in London, where Islamist suicide bombers killed 52 people and injured over 770. The Prime Minister said, “Today the whole country will unite to remember the lives lost in the 7/7 attacks, and all those whose lives were irrevocably changed. We honor the bravery of emergency services, the strength of survivors, and the unity of Londoners in the face of terror.” The King added, “We remember those who were killed in attacks on London’s transport system and a bus, and the stories of courage and compassion that day. We recall the 52 innocent people killed in senseless acts of evil and the enduring grief of their loved ones. We also remember those who have continued to carry physical and psychological scars from that day.” Cooper stated, “Twenty years have passed since 7/7 but it remains an appalling attack on our capital city and democracy itself. Our thoughts remain with the victims, survivors, and their loved ones. Amid the horror of that day, the best of humanity was seen in the emergency services, first responders, and ordinary Londoners who acted bravely to help one another.” Two weeks after the attacks, five other would-be suicide bombers attempted to detonate similar devices, but their efforts failed to cause any injuries.
