Suspect Arrested for Teenager Lathaniel Burrell’s Murder in South London | UK News

A man has been charged with the murder of a teenage boy who was shot and killed in Stockwell, south London, according to the Metropolitan Police.

Lathaniel Burrell, 16, was shot dead in south London on Tuesday. Paramedics were called to the scene at about 3 p.m. after reports of a shooting on Paradise Road. Despite their efforts, the teenager died at the scene.

Omar Prempeh, 32, from Forest Hill in south London, has been charged with Burrell’s murder, which was confirmed by the Met.

A police spokesperson stated, “Omar Prempeh, 32, of Stanstead Road, Forest Hill, was charged with murder on Saturday, March 8, following the fatal shooting of Lathaniel Burrell. Lathaniel, from Stockwell, died at the scene following the shooting in Paradise Road, SW4, on Tuesday, March 4. He was 16 years old. His family continue to be supported by specialist officers. If you have any information that may help the investigation, please call 101 with the reference 4116/04MAR.”

Prempeh is scheduled to appear at Bromley Magistrates Court on Monday.

Florence Eshalomi, the Labour MP for Vauxhall and Camberwell Green, expressed her condolences at the time of the shooting, saying, “Stockwell is a vibrant, diverse, close-knit community. We are going to make sure that there is a visible police presence to reassure people.”

She added, “This is a sad, wasted life; this boy could have had so much potential. His future has been robbed. The family and community will continue to grieve; you can never get over this shock.”

This incident marks the first fatal shooting in London in 2024. In total, there have been 13 fatal shootings out of 105 homicides recorded by the Metropolitan Police in the capital.
