A distressing case involving a 47-year-old mother accused of stabbing her three children while they slept has been described as tragic by her lawyer following its initial mention in court. The children, aged 10, 13, and 16, were allegedly attacked with a household knife in their home on Monday, leading to multiple stab wounds and injuries. The mother also reportedly stabbed herself in the abdomen three times. She has been charged with three counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent to murder and has been hospitalized under police guard.
The woman did not seek bail, which was formally denied when her lawyer briefed the Parramatta local court on Tuesday. The case was adjourned until 29 May, and an interim apprehended violence order has been issued against her. Her lawyer, Peter Guirguis, expressed his sorrow over the incident outside court.
The children, one of whom has paraplegia, were taken to the hospital following the attack and are expected to recover. They were asleep in their bedrooms when the alleged incident occurred, waking their father. He managed to restrain the alleged weapon before contacting the police. No prior history of domestic violence has been reported within the family.
