China’s defence ministry spokesperson has warned Taiwan, “we will come and get you, sooner or later,” following Taipei’ announcement of expanded military exercises. The threat was made during a press conference and drew attention in China for its resemblance to a line from a popular children’s movie, Ne Zha 2. The movie has become a symbol of nationalism in China, with people cheering it on against Captain America: Brave New World, which had a lackluster reception. In response to Wu’s comments and recent Chinese military drills, the Taiwan defence ministry accused China of being the biggest “troublemaker” in the international community.
